Kinja'd!!!

Hey, Oppo! I regret that I don't make it on here very much anymore, and there's a reason. My new employer (where I've been for the last couple of months) blocks non-work-related internet browsing. No, seriously. I can't even visit Google without special permission.

I do try to log on when I can, but my weekends are busy, and it's pretty quiet here in the evenings. I'm liking work (even if it isn't automotive), and still making it to Katie's C&C most Saturdays. The Phaeton's still a peach, though just about due for a service. Hope all is just ducky with you all.

Ahmaghad Jagvar! That Audi was beautiful. The leather was immaculate.

Last time I saw it at Katie's was sometime earlier this years/last year :/

Glad you're liking work though man!

At what point during the cold season do you give up and start wearing shoes?

Which have more 32nds: the tires on the Phaeton or the calluses on your feet?

I'd guess the calluses have better grip by now.

There is the option of an iPad with a data package. It's understandably difficult to post from a phone.

Rarely nowadays, life smacked me upside the head and I've had less and less time to myself since. It's just starting to get cold (Today was horrible) so I'm probably done for the season anyways.

I heard JayZAyEighty was trying to get a DC area Oppo meetup together a while back, I'm still on the mailing list I think. Would be pretty cool to get one together once winter has left.

Yeah, but I'm just not sure I'm willing to go out and buy an iPad and a data plan just so I can Oppo from work, though.

Doubtless you also have a data plan for your phone. The GF's boss gave us his iPad when he got a new one, and the data plan proved too expensive. A couple years in we realized - I don't even bother with an iPad anymore, and the one that remains is relegated to Candy Crush and Angry Birds. And the occaisional "Look at this apartment!" then "Oh wait, it doesn't have laundry in the building."

Glad things are going well.

Maybe the Reader's Digest of OPPO is a good way to stay connected?

I've been a bit inactive lately, but I'm still planning on putting another meetup together. The to-do list for the car has been piling up (and piling up) so I'll be spending the better part of winter freeing my monies on it, but I think a meetup is in order as soon as people will be willing to go! Also let me know if you'd want the list to set anything up; I could have sworn I scrolled by it the other day while looking for a file.

Ah, Got it.

The C4 needed a new clutch right? And I'm guessing a few more things.

Pretty much. Since this is at 135k, it's definitely the second clutch job. I'd love to find a lightweight one but I doubt there's one for an '84-'88 car. Then there's the differential fluid, which is even more labor intensive. The diff is making one hell of a whine in the first 3 gears, so I might want to find a positraction rear end out of a Z51. Depends on the cost. That means dropping the exhaust (I'd really like to get a nice set of pipes under there while it's off, but that's not really on option), driveshaft, and suspension components, and I've had some poly bushings that have been waiting to go on for months. Then there's a sound coming from the power steering system as well, so I'll try flushing that and failing that getting a new pump. Since I daily drive the car when the weather is nice, I'm hoping I can get that stuff done as soon as possible. Even then, the car won't be worth anything because oh no the car has been driven more than 1,000 miles a year!, but it'll hopefully feel close to new aside from the engine! I'm not feeling buyer's remorse, but there was one of 400 5 speed USDM W124s up for sale in West VA a week ago in nice shape for $2k. And if you're interested, there's a really clean 5 speed Saab 9000 turbo nice paint/leather with 67k for $1,800 for sale in Alexandria that I'd be tempted to scoop up. It's important to at least have a good relationship with a dependable mechanic, though.

Sounds pretty nice, you could always just do a res delete and go from there. Save up for a Borla system or something. Sounds like it just needs a bunch of preventative maintenance like things. It is a shame that C4s are expected to have like 50,000 miles on them though.

That Saab sounds nice, Maybe scoop it up as a DD while you work the C4 out?

There's a pretty good Saab only place in Falls Church. I take my A4 to the Audi place right next door to it even though it's a solid 45 minute drive from PW where I live.

Yeah, the borla stingers sound like absolute sex paired to the L98. Very expensive sex, though. The res delete sounds like a good plan, sounds like a reasonable move while the exhaust is out. I'm really happy to have found that Fidanza makes 5 lightweight flywheels for my car, though! Aluminum flywheels are expensive, but one would really liven up the car. Especially in parking lots, where off-idle torque meets rev happiness. The Saab would be a great winter car. I love the 9000, who couldn't after Saab Suite? But that would mean trying to sell a shitty old Chrysler convertible during the winter to pay for it and that would be difficult. It's been sitting at a gas station since August, so I'm hoping it'll be there around april. That's interesting to hear about a Saab garage, though; they are few and far between. I can't see driving the C4 during winter, though, not just because it has a steel frame that can rust (it spent its first 25 years in southern california) but also because it tests your gymkhana skills every time there's some rain. And honestly, I couldn't own an older car with low miles because I'd be obsessive compulsive on every drive.

Haha, That's why I wouldn't necessarily want a new car or extremely low mileage car. I'd be so worried about the first scratch or dent. And would be crazy overprotective.

Part out the shitty old Chrysler! If you can get it fairly deconstructed, you could just strew the parts throughout your house and garage. I'd totally get how you couldn't drive the C4 during winter, especially with the tires that most of them have.

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, same. With a new/low miles car I'd probably have to figure out how many miles it was driven on an average year, and set that as my driving limit. Then I'd be going on a trip to a nice road and be counting down in my head the whole time. It's crazy. I'm still pretty concerned about minor stuff happening to the car, but I've caused some of it. When I repainted the one windshield border, I spent over an hour masking the area but had some very light (almost unnoticable) overspray as I discovered in the next wax. Easily removable, but I haven't gotten to it. Luckily the older tire dimensions make it impossible to curb wheels, which I really enjoy (not curbing wheels, but the helpful tires). One day the interior rattles will make me crazy enough to disassemble and reassemble everything and then never hit a pot hole again, and if I have a decent job a ways down the road I'll put it back to almost-new condition. Letting the car sit for 5 months upon purchase wasn't a good thing, but I figured it was part of being accepted into the Corvette family haha. The Chrysler is my dad's, and despite parting it out being the best financial decision and his hatred for the car, he wouldn't let that happen...

Haha, I would have screamed like there was no tomorrow.

Not curbing wheels would be awesome though, I wish that would be possible in every car.

I quite literally shuddered at the sight, but it's on my list of minor projects this winter along with flushing the coolant and replacing valve cover gaskets. If I'd been driving a new car the other day, parking with two wheels in a gutter angled towards the curb, my wheels would have been scraped. Higher sidewalls were our friends after all!
